Full Bath Remodel - need advice!

We are preparing to demo our full bath in a couple of weeks. Thankfully we have a finished 3/4 bath in the basement so we can take our time on the remodel. I know what color I would like the bathroom (a medium grayish navy), what style toilet, sliding shower doors and that's just about it. The bathroom is very outdated and has carpet (so gross ) that needs to go. We will be removing the current tub as well and replacing it with an alcove tub. Hubby wants the plastic/fiberglass tub surround walls, I'd like something nicer. Because of the plumbing and the window, I am planning to leave the layout alone. I also love the corner shelving and would like to keep something similar to it in the new design. The counter area houses our laundry chute so something will need to be built there that is similar. It's so hard to keep everything put away and out of sight with little storage, so simple storage ideas are appreciated as well. We do have a linen closet for all the big bathroom essentials right outside the bathroom, thankfully. Give me ideas please!

I'm not a fan if those hand held shower heads. Also, may I recommend a Hans Grohe shower body that has separate controls for volume & temperature? It also remembers the temp of your last shower. Once you set the temp, adjustments aren't needed as the temp may fluctuate from the hot water tank. There is just one problem. It costs $600.

The features you like in the bathroom won't go away if you demo all the walls, which is what I always recommend. Remove everything, including the toilet. Give yourself a nice clean palette to work from. You can modify what you had, correct wiring and plumbing as you go, upgrade things to modern code, and come out with a really nice bathroom. Removing the tub will be a job if you try to do it in one piece. We always cut them in three pieces and haul them off. The new one may or may not fit due to turning radius requirements, but you'll just have to do some good measuring. Is that tub fiberglas or cast iron? You will be relegated to a tub only and will have to deal with the walls with panels or tile for the same reason.
