Flooring Advice

I am building an addition on to my house. Brief history: The house was built in the 50's and had an addition built on in the 80's. My new addition will be attached to the house through the old addition. When we bought the house, I refinished the hardwood in the original portion of the house. The old addition currently just has carpet. I am considering laying hardwood throughout the new and old addition.

My question is this: should I (do I have to) match the hardwood width to the original floor? The original hardwood is 3/4"x 2 1/2" oak. My original thought is yes but just curious what other opinions are out there.
