Finishing a landing area

Looking for ideas on how to finish this riser from the back door landing into the kitchen. My current plan is to nail in 1/2" plywood and paint, but not sure how to handle the drywall/plywood joint (right side of pix). Maybe put j-channel on the drywall for a clean edge?

Re: Finishing a landing area

I would space it out so the riser is over of the drywall.
But what is your plan for the nose of the floor.

Do you mean use a riser thicker than the drywall? And then caulk the resulting joint?

Fill the space with 1/2" plywood then just cover that with the riser so it extends over the drywall about 1/2"

Re: Finishing a landing area

Just my opinion.
I would run the drywall straight down to the landing.

install your step/riser and the drywall and trim should dive into it.
