finishing a cinder block basement fireplace

I would like to finish the cinder block on a basement fireplace. I have thought of just painting it or putting on drywall.

If I put up drywall, how would I attach it. Furring strips?

If I paint , should I put on a skim coat of cement?

I would download a photo, but I don't know how...

Thanks, Burt

Its easier to attach via furring strips. Will you need to run any electrical in that wall?

----------------------------------Welcome to the forums!-----------------------

Code requires 12" from the flue liner to any combustibles (wood/plastic furring strips), IDK if yours meets one of the three exceptions or not, pages 8, 9/10; eg.; http://www2.iccsafe.org/states/virgi...Fireplaces.pdf

Check with local AHJ or Fire Marshall or the permit you need anyway... judging by the framing/drywall.

17,000 dryer fires a year, when did you last clean the inside of the dryer near motor or the exhaust ducting?

Re: finishing a cinder block basement fireplace

Thank you. I will measure this weekend. I am sure the sides are 12 inches away from the flue, but not the front.

No wires will be used on these walls....
