Duplex combining

I currently live in a half of a double home. I am located on the corner of a hill and the other half of this duplex is attached on the hill side. This makes the other half of the duplex's roof about 1-2 feet lower than my roof. I am currently thinking about buying the other half and combining the 2 homes into 1 home. Is this possible and what kind of project would it end up being? I'm willing to put a reasonable amount into this project, but if the cost would be upwards of 100K, it would be cheaper to buy a new home. Anyone with any experience and has input would be greatly appreciated
Thanks so much,
Christina

It's anyone's guess what can and can not be done without some pictures or better yet being on site.
Checked with zoning yet to see if it would be allowed?
I'd be contacting a GC near by and get some prices, it's going to involve several different trades and permits.

Renovations can end up costing more than building a new house. If you want a bigger house, I'd look for a bigger house. Don't be tempted by how cheap it may be.
