dropped ceiling

In a house with 8' ceilings all over except the kitchen where the ceiling is only maybe 6'10 - 7' is it an impossible task to raise the ceiling? We're looking to buy this house but we have tall people in the family and that low ceiling could be a deal breaker.

SO you can lower it if the current ceiling was lowered in a previous remodel, otherwise you cannot because the joists supporting the upper level of the home cannot be changed without compromising the structural integrity of the home.

If there is attic space above, theoretically you could create some sort of vaulted ceiling, but the cost of doing so would be very high!

Not sure how anyone here would know without being there to see why it's that low.
If it's suspended ceilings just lift up one of the panels to see why it was done this way.
Often times someone was trying to cover up an old failing ceiling instead of fixing it right.

we're still downloading photos. No, there aren't any ceiling panels. Looks like it was just built that way.

Thanks for the opinions. Sorta what I expected to hear.
