So we bought a home with a metal spiral staircase and thought we would like it. We are finding some problems associated with it, like hauling things up or down it.
I would like to replace it with perhaps some platforms and straight stairs. With the information provided, do you think it would be possible?
My thoughts are perhaps a couple steps from the top and a small platform. Turn right and a couple more steps to another platform, turn right and longer stairs to the basement floor. Not sure if I have enough space to do that all.
That will be a big job, the floor would have to be restructures from below to make the hole bigger. Or you would have to add a bearing wall with footing below the basement floor.
You mentioned a landing. stairs are 36" wide and a landing is 36" long.
