carpeting

Removed old carpeting to find and older carpet underneath. This one was glued down onto plywood. After pealing the carpet and scraping the under padding that was left behind, there is a residue of glue. It is smooth. Does the glue need to be removed before re-carpeting. I see no reason to glue the new carpet down.
Thank you for any help

Gotta love surprises like that.
Just do your best to get the floor flat, eliminating irregularities that poke up higher than 1/8". The glue won't hurt anything to be left there; your new carpet padding will cover it.
Carpet typically does not need glued down

Re: carpeting

Are you sure that you want to use carpet again? I shampooed carpets on & off for 23 years. They just hold dirt & the chemicals, in new carpet is not good for young children or pets. Keep that in mind.
