Bathroom Tile to Cieling Cement Board

So I am remodeling my bathroom and I want to tile from the tub to the ceiling. The previous tile only went up to about 6 ft from the floor.
My question is can I just install cement board up the the previous tile line and then continue to tile over the existing drywall? Or should I pull the drywall and replace with cement board all the way up to ceiling?

I would just demo all the way up to the ceiling. Then you don't need to worry about the line between backer board and drywall being flush for your new tile.

Re: Bathroom Tile to Cieling Cement Board

The short answer is yes you can transition the tile from cement board to drywall and it's unlikely to cause any issues but since a good portion has already been demo'd it makes sense to go to the ceiling with the cement board as suggested above.
