Bathroom tile

Does this tile job look normal to you? Should I demand they do better?

First photo is of the shower pony wall. They seem to have a problem with a thin consistent grout line and a seamless connect between the tile and quarter round. Looks ugly no?

Next up is the tile in the shower. They failed in their first and second attempts to tile the shower correctly and this is the product of their third attempt. Check out how they actually broke a tile and tried to put the two pieces on the wall and even had the nerve to grout the broken piece with its parent.

And after the project manager and head foreman were fired by the company for their terrible job the owner of the company took over the project. They put this piece of tile in next to the the counter top and obviously chipped it and in an attempt to disguise it they just painted over the chip. They said this was normal lol. Thoughts?

Re: Bathroom tile

I've seen plenty of chicken $&it tile jobs, but this takes a special prize. Easy solution is to withold final payment until the company hires a true tile person and corrects all the boogers.

That is what we are doing but what do you do when they redo it over and over and it gets better but there are still bad mistakes (just not as many). They started the remodel last June, so it is going on eight months now. I still cannot use my shower (due to pitch and sloping concerns), there are chipped painted over tiles, crown molding not put in correctly that is coming off, cabinet doors that were not installed correctly, chipped dry wall outside window and they ruined my stamped concrete where they were mixing their thinset on top of all the construction dust all over the place and 6-7 months where I could not use my master bathroom AND master bedroom due to construction or construction mess.

When I try to fire them they say we are "under contract" and want either full amount or we cannot agree on the discount.

Re: Bathroom tile

Sounds as if you have eaten up your "discount" in actual losses. What you describe will not get better on its own. Any contract can be voided for failure of performance, which has happened here.

Re: Bathroom tile

As a professional remodeler, I've been dealing with sub-contractors for over 40 years. Do this: Document the screw-ups, like you've done, and get some quotes from other tile setters. (Also, don't be looking for any more "discounts." Hacks offer discounts to get into the front door.) Have them itemize what it will cost to fix the repairs---replacing tiles, etc. Hire them. Then, pay the clowns on the job what you owe them minus the money needed to properly complete the job. Hand them copies of the contract from the new tile setters and get them out of your house. When they complain, explain that they can tell it to the judge, who will review the photos of their unacceptable work, the estimates to repair it, etc. If you see them on your property any more, explain that you will call the police. Don't get emotional, just tell them the facts.
