Brand new to the board and boy do I need help so the wife doesn't think I'm useless .
Our house was built in 87 still has the 80s tile around the woodburning prefab insert to prove it.
We have removed mantle, tile and now trying to determine how big of a hole we need to make to remove the insert from the INSIDE, there is a raised deck on the outside of the chimney which is wood and siding(sorry for the lack of better terminology) I would assume I need to go a couple inches above the top of the insert to disconnect the chute(???)
We have lived in house for 8 years and never used it.
1) What else needs to be removed?
2) We will be installing an electric fireplace and mounting TV above it.. Can I build a shelf in the hallows of the chimney??
