3 way switch question

I cannot find a diagram for the scenario that I have in my foreclosure home I recently purchased. I am trying to do a simple 3 way switch in a kitchen. the power source comes into the first switch box. the 2 wire for the light also comes into the first switch box. the 3 wire for the travelers go between the two switch boxes. can this be done?

At first switch, connect power source black to the common screw (the black or brass colored one) of the switch. Connect black going to light to black of the 3-conductor cable. Connect power source white to white going to light. The white and red from the 3-conductor go to the traveler screws of the switch. At the second switch, connect black to the common screw, white and red to the traveler screws.

Always remember this about three way switches: incoming hot to one common, hot to light on other common. This works no matter how the wires are arranged.
