![]() Question about board & batten houses
Curious how you maintain a board and batten house?? I'm thinking of buying a house with board and batten siding not sure what work comes with that? : )

Same as clapboard siding. You will have to paint or stain every so many years length dependant on the finish and the quality of the material being used.

I think that maintenance of caulked horizontal joints is a lot more critical with board and batten siding. A lot of homes around here were built in the 60's-90's using masonite and they didn't make any attempt to flash the horizontal pieces or the horizontal butt seams and they're really degrading...You can definitely tell who has done the upkeep and who hasn't. If properly flashed and the caulking is maintainted (replaced every few years) there's no reason to be concerned.
