Reframe over the doors (not load bearing) as if it was to be a transom - install cabinet doors and a shelf for full storage 26" deep.

Doing that (transom cabinets) allows the entire height of the door to be full depth (26") shelves, rather than have to have deep ones on the bottom and shallower on the top to allow access above the doors.

Or, put in 9' doors.

If you don't change the framing, you're pretty much stuck with traditional stepped shelving and can only gain a few square inches by finagling depth and placement.
