Fireplace surround ideas

So I have a new gas fireplace insert. I also have a fireplace surround with a two marble leg pieces and a marble piece that goes across the top. There is a large marble piece on the floor also. I had my floors recently done and I asked the flooring carpenter to build up the base so that it would sit 1.5 inches off the ground. He didn't do so, it sits about an inch off the ground. Because of this, the marble legs are about a half inch too short.
I think my two options are -
1) set the marble legs flush with the top (header) piece of marble and put shoe moulding or quarter round at the base to cover the half inch gap.
2) grinding down the top piece of marble right over the fireplace insert so that it sits a half in lower to meet the legs that would be flush at the base.

Ideas?

I agree with Joecaption, you should share pics of it, so that we can easily understand it.

It would be nice, if you can share the pictures of the fireplace area, as without picture, it’s difficult to give any idea and suggestions.

What about going back to the contractor who didn't do the work to your specifications? I understand this is a DIY forum, but if you asked a contractor to build it up 1.5" so it would be flush, and he did not, I'd get him back to fix it. You paid him to do something, and he didn't do it right. Or, if he has an idea for fixing it, and you approve of it, he can go that route. But, it seems like its on the contractor (hopefully you got an honest one).
