Building a support box below a kitchen desk

Hi, I am having a countertop installed on Monday, that include a drop down to a kitchen desk height. The length of the 30" height for this countertop will be about 44" long. However, I need to build something to support it. I didn't want to use something bulky and ugly like a 2x4. I do have a bunch of left over toe kicks from IKEA, they are 1/2" in thickness and appear to be made out of OSB. Can I use these to support the cabinet? The three sides that I will be tying into are two outside walls, and a side of the cabinetry.

Will this be a show board? Can it be seen?

I suggest you use a solid hardwood and not particle board--
