Best way to "pest proof" old lumber??
I just picked up a bunch of old beautifully weathered pine to dress up the exposed microlams in my house. Unfortunately, along with the "weathered" comes a bunch of termite holes, and God knows what else.
While I haven't seen anything "active" while ripping and sawing the stuff, I'd sleep better at night if I treat the stuff in some way before it all goes up.....anybody suggest something to use that won't stain or discolor the wood??? any suggestions appreciated.
Thanks a bunch,
Boron/borax in solution and sprayed on should not discolor it much. It is an age old pest control mineral and is generally harmless to humans and animals. It can render soil sterile though so do not over apply where danger of runoff. I usually add it to renovations when I have walls open.
I use a lot of products from this company but they are a bit pricey. Do a search for competing products. Just make sure you get enough concentration to do some good.
