Attic door/stair question

I am going to install an attic door/stair in my farm work shop to get up into the trusses. The second floor loft is 7'2" from the deck floor to the ceiling.
I have not been able to find an attic door stair assembly made that is close to my fixed dimension.
The closest one I can find is an adjustable one that says it's minimum height is 7'10".
Is there a problem with installing it and shortening the ladder at the foot end? The Lowe's guy said that it won't work.

Any helpful hints appreciated!

Much obliged,
mustang Gregg

PS The unit I picked up is a Louisville #A2210.

Not a problum, but unless those trussed are built for storage they should not be top loaded.
