what size should the reinforcing welded corner be?

Building a metal structure for a one storey double garage.

I will need to weld W6x12 I beam with W8x24 I beam in a 90 degree corner.

In the engineering drawing, it asks for welded steel corners to be put in place to reinforce this corner weld, but the size of the welded steel corners will be up to the welder to decide.

So, what size should be the welded steel corners?

Or are the welded corners just angle beams like this one?

or this?

Thanks a lot

I would use the solid ones, in the same thickness as the I beams are.

I think you are looking for something a little more heavy duty.

The metal suppliers don't have anything "welded". I can ask them for angle steels.

So the angle steels that I want to order for the joint of W8x24 and W6x12 is something like 3"x3", 1/4" or 3/8" thickness?

I think more than likely they want you to design the joint. You are dealing with beams that would support tons and you won't find anything off the shelf at HH for that.

There should be a detail drawin', in the engineer's drawin',....
Use a scale to find the size,....
