Dont Have it, Make It

doing some brakes on car, stupid integrated parking brake means spiral caliper piston. i dont have the real tool nor do i care to buy it, so i made something that allowed me to get the piston back down. ~60k miles on the rear pads, 1st time replacing these ones, my last time too, car is being sold.

but hey, here's an idea if you run into this problem. i simply measured between the "holes" in the piston face and then added some pins (welded in place) to a ~6" piece of scrap. the pins stick out to about the depth of the "holes" in piston. i engage the piston with tool and with one hand grip the caliper and hold tool tight on piston face with thumb, i turn it with other hand. now what seem odd is, at one point it just seemed like the piston was spinning but not moving down, so i used the help of a C clamp to add some "push" while i turned the piston, and that did the trick for that last 1/8" or so i needed to be able to get the caliper back over these new thick pads. and to note, all the turning is with fluid valve open, i'll do final brake bleed later.

Necessity is the mother of all invention.

I bought the kit from Harbor Freight, but then again...I don't have a welder or those skills.

Everything working right after the brake swap?
