Basement handrailing

When we built the house I never put handrail to the basement. We had some water issues in basement at the end of June from heavy rains (10") which broke the egress window and flooded basement.

So since I had to re-do the woodwork and drywall I figured I might as well continue the handrail to the basement. As we get older I appreciate the handrail more all the time.

So just got rolling. Need to find matching cable and hardware so I can get the holes drilled for those and get it powder-coated. Everything is DIY in the garage using a TIG.

Re: Basement handrailing

If your in the US (no location in your profile so we have to guess) what you have there now may not meet modern codes.
There needs to be a grip able handrail.

Re: Basement handrailing

Thanks for the info. Yes, I am in the US. I am going to make it match the rest of the house regardless of code. It was inspected in 2010 (right or wrong) and passed. But will do a little digging on that just out of curiosity.

I have seen that and I too have wondered about code, they used to get excited if kids could climb over. But hay it looks good.
