VHS-C adapter

I have a question about some ancient technology. We cleaned out my mother-in-law's house after she died and found a box of VHS-C tapes of home movies. The video camera is long gone. I still have a VCR I saved in case I ever needed one. I also have the adapter you put the VHS-C tape in to play in a VCR. I'm having trouble getting the adapter to work. The AA battery was left in it for many years and the terminals in the battery compartment are corroded. I'm looking for suggestions on how to get this to work. I realize I could buy one on Amazon for about $30, and I may eventually have to do this, but I'd like to avoid it if possible, as there are only about 10 tapes. My goal is to import them into my computer and burn them onto DVD's. I already have the necessary software and connections for this, as I've converted all of my home movies over the years.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

This seems like good advice to remove corrosion:

Why are there batteries? My VHS-C adapter was just a housing the VHS-c tape slid into that was the same size as a VHS tape so the VCR could house it.

Re: VHS-C adapter

There is a manual VHS-C adapter and a motorized version that takes batteries. Ironically, they are both still available (some used)--and cost about the same price.

I tried Adamz's advice and it worked great. Makes me wonder how many things I've thrown away over the years that could have been fixed with that simple procedure.

Thanks for the help.

Simply bring those Tapes to Costco, they will transfer them on to DVD for cheap.
