what is this noise ?

i have a 2y/o toro recycler (my neighbors new remington also does the same exact thing).

when cutting heavy and/or thick grass. the machine will develope a clattering noise. bout sounds like it threw a bearing. i then tilt the machine up in the front, and grass lumps start flying out in a rhythmic fashion . after a 1/2 minute the grass stops flying and the noise goes away. i know the grass is causing the noise, but what is the grass doing in there ?

Make sure the nut holding your blade is on tight; could be loose.
How high off of ground is tip of blade (cutting height)? Might be cutting too low for height of grass.

i sharpened the blade not long ago, it was not loose.

tipping = i just push down on the handle and the front of the mower goes up some. or, i can just go onto a hard surface(driveway etc) and the mower will clear up.

i mow high'ish. but it has been raining often, and my weed&feed, the grass is growing fast.

General rule is not to remove more than 1/3 of the grass length per mow.
First site I came to:
http://www.diynetwork.com/how-to/out...-cut-the-grass
You may need to mow 2x's week till things slows down. Sounds like the cut grass is too much for the mower to handle.

yeah, i know that. but because of all the rain, it gets done when possible.

my question is = what is the grass doing to make the mower noisy ?

Doing bout the same thing a playing card does when attached to a bicycle so the spokes hit the card.

This will occur in wet grass, because it clumps up,and sticks to the deck.
Do you clean the underside of the deck, after each mowing ?
If not, it could be ready to clean the dried on grass.

Once dried the water hose will do nothing. Once cleaned, hose it after each mowing while it's still wet.

This is your most likely culprit. You've got grass banging around in there that can't get out, and it's too heavy to chop up finely and drop down.
