Star ridges on the shaft are broken, any solutions?

Hi All,

I have a craftsman push lawn mower which I replaced with a new blade early this season but noticed a huge vibration. I just checked and the blade is balanced and the shaft doesn't look bent.

However, when removing the blade I noticed the ridges (star shaped) on the shaft that holds the blade into place melted off or something. So basically the blade is no longer held in place by the star ridges. So it is only the one screw that holds the blade into place.

Is this repairable or is there any tips on fixing this? Or will I need to buy a new lawn mower?

Thanks!

Looks like this thing is called a blade adapter, good thing this is replaceable. Follow-up question, could this bad blade adapter be the cause of the vibrations or there could've been something else too?

If the star shapes that melted off were what keeps the hole in the blade concentric with the shaft, then yes the blade could be off center with the engine shaft and could cause vibration.

Searching I haven't found exactly what your mower has.

I think it is a softer metal to save the engine when you hit a rock or smething that will not move.

Thanks, what Nealtw linked is the adapter I'm referencing. Reading reviews, it appears this thing shreds really easily. Also noticed the drive belt is kind of loose, will replace that and hopefully that fixes the vibrations.
