Squeaking Craftsman riding mower

Have A Craftsman 917.289281 ( who knew they'd fall this far!) lawn tractor with about 280hrs. Recently when I give it gas, particularly inclines or with loads, the belts squeak and the tractor either barely moves or doesn't move at all. (No squeaking when I step on the gas without the tractor moving)

I thought it'd be the belt, since there's no tension adjustment on these, so I replaced it (this is only the second time since I bought the thing). No change.

Any ideas?

I don't know the model but would have guessed belt as well. I tried to access the ground drive section at Sears but it wouldn't open. With no tensioner and assuming a correct replacement belt, it sounds like something has caused the distance between the two main sheaves to become shorter. Worn sheave? Dirty sheave? Loose mounting of engine or transmission causing them to shift?

Had a similar issue on my MTD. I replaced the belts and applied some belt dressing. Now it tuns like a champ.

Re: Squeaking Craftsman riding mower

Has the pulleys wore a little, and the belt is bottoming out.

As stated " Belt Dressing", can help, for now.
