LX176 PTO switch replacement

I'm looking to check or replace the PTO switch on my LX176 JD mower. it appears that I need to just pull the wires off of the bottom of the switch and then squeeze the tabs on the switch to remove. However, I've not figured out how to easily access the PTO switch. anyone have step by step directions or hints on how to remove this switch? thanks

Re: LX176 PTO switch replacement

The LX is a newer version than mine so I'm talking blind here but there should be two bolts on the side of the instrument panel (lift the hood) that fasten it to a frame. You will probably have to remove the steering wheel to give yourself enough room. You are probably meant to pop the centre cover off the steering wheel with a flat screw driver to expose the nut. THE wheel is on a splined shaft and if it's been on for a while may be reluctant to come off. You could try some penetrating oil and let it sit, or possibly some light taps on the end of the shaft with a hammer whilst apply up force on the wheel with your knees or something. Reinstall the nut to do this until it is about even with the top of the shaft so you don't screw up the threads and don't bash the heck of it. If worse come to worst you may need a puller.
