Loose blade

I have a good running push mower and all of a sudden the blade won't stay tight. I even tightened it with an impact. Any ideas? Maybe Loctite? Another lock washer?

Re: Loose blade

100 % sure it's not bent from hitting something?
Checked to see if it's balanced?

Re: Loose blade

Yes , inspect that blade carefully, any imperfection will throw it off balance, and at the high RPM that it gets to, the centrifical force will vibrate, and cause many problems.

One of them is to become loosened.

Re: Loose blade

Have you replaced anything about the blade fastening?
It should have either a friction washer between blade and mount or a Bellville washer just under bolt head.

Re: Loose blade

posting the make and model of the mower you have will help.

the mower I have has the "star" center blade holder.
the hub with the male star is made to break away
when something is hit - vs breaking the crankshaft.
you won't know this unless you take the blade off and
examine the hub. if the star is sheared off, it must be
replaced. not that expensive and is an easy DIY project.
the hub is an easy online order replacement.
it is not threaded - just a friction fit held in place with the bolt.
if you order a new hub, you will receive a new bolt and
washer with it. use them - do not use the old hardware.
