Fuel Additive?

For years I've generally tried to use non-ethanol fuel in my small engines. A recent conversation with a mechanic has gotten me thinking about what -- besides ethanol -- is missing in that fuel; specifically, is there some additive(s) that I could/should add to improve performance and protection of the engine?

My sons & I did a lawn-mowing business for years, and never had any issues burning ethanol. But I think that might be because we used the equipment so much that the fuel never sat for long periods of time.

I now just take care of my own lawn, which is a mere fraction of what we used to do. I usually buy non-ethanol gas, and never use additives of any kind. I don't use Sta-bil or Seafoam in the fall. Nothing. I'm using an older John Deere mower, left over from the mowing business, and I have no problems.

Ayuh,..... An ounce per gallon of gasoline, of Marvel's Mystery Oil hasn't hurt any motors in the last 100 years,....
It's billed as an upper cylinder lube,...

It's benefits are debatable, but it does No harm, 'n if ya believe the benefits claimed, it does a world of Good,....

I run it in some motors,...

In 2-stroke boat motors, 'n snowmobiles it's good for an extra 300 to 500 rpms, top end,....
Much like the ole Wynn's Friction Proofin' of days gone by,....
'cept Marvel's is still 'round,....

Re: Fuel Additive?

Any ethanol or non-ethanol gasoline that you buy already has a handful of additives in it, to keep injectors clean etc. Some of the gasoline companies make a point of advertising their additives like Shell's V-Power or Chevron's Techron.

If you are lucky enough to have a convenient source of non-ethanol gasoline, keep using it. Between seasons if tools are parked I would use Stabil. Apparently it keeps additives from breaking down, tests I have seen suggest that it does do that.
