Engine stops after disconnecting battery

After about an hour of grass cutting on my Dixie Chopper 27hp equipped with a Guardian engine, the mower completely shut down. I eventually checked the battery voltage and found it was at < 7 volts. I charged the battery and it started and sounded fine. After thinking about this, I started to wonder if I'm seeing an electrical issue and I started checking the fuse and regulator. I did find a lose wire on the regulator terminal which feeds into the battery and secured it. I then checked the voltage to the battery while running the engine which read >14 volts. After further thinking about this conundrum, I decided to disconnect the battery after starting the engine and the engine stopped. At this point, I'm not really sure if this is normal or this is a stator, regulator or some other issue. Thoughts please.

Many Thanks

You could also have a loose connection any where the power goes on it's way to the battery, the key switch or relay,or what have you.

Re: Engine stops after disconnecting battery

It should run with no battery, after cranking and starting.

A component somewhere between the regulator, and ignition is faulty, or loose.

Re: Engine stops after disconnecting battery

If the engine is equipped with a carburetor fuel solenoid shut off valve it will die if the battery is removed. The < 7 volts probably killed it initially.
