Ariens Snowblower

I have an Ariens 870 snowblower.
It seems just recently when I get into a high snow area, the snowblower will slow down, I almost have to push it., like it loses power under a load.
The engine does not seem to slow, just the drive mechanism.
What adjustment to I have to make??
Is it a loose drive cable?
Thanks
Barry

Re: Ariens Snowblower

The operator's manual may suggest occasional necessary adjustments that may need to be made. If your manual got lost in the shuffle as many do, an on line manual may be available.

In the meantime enjoy some snow ice cream while searching.

Re: Ariens Snowblower

I'd go with a belt or the friction disc is starting to wear out.

Re: Ariens Snowblower

If it's anything like my Simplicity 870, as I think it might be, I remember the same condition 5 years or so ago. As I recall, there is a turnbuckle arrangement at the bottom of the rod from the handle, and I'm pretty sure that I just shortened the rod a bit at that point. That probably has a limited range, so likely not going to compensate for belts or a friction disk that are worn too far, but pretty sure that's all mine needed. I think there is a spring in the linkage just below that too, so it probably doesn't take much. Wish I could be more specific, but use the tractor a lot more often than the blower, so even at 25+ years it still looks almost new and has been very low maintenance.

Re: Ariens Snowblower

I have an Ariens blower and had the same issue about 2 years. I replaced the belt and it was like a brand new machine.

The fact that it happens when you get into high snow suggests to me that you may need to install a baffle between the belt cover and engine mount. Repair clinic sells them for around 10 dollars plus shipping. https://www.repairclinic.com/PartDet...605600/1769721 I just installed one on my 926 but won't know if it solved the slipping problem until next winter when it snows again. Ariens recognized the problem and started installing these in their new snow throwers.
