Why don't concrete contractors need to have a state license?

I'm just curious. I don't believe they need one in my state. It seems like a critical and expensive step to repair in the building process. Why do you think they don't require a state contractor license for it? Does the responsibility just fall onto the GC?

What state is that? Even if they aren't required I'd never recommend hiring anybody to work on my property without being licensed, bonded and insured.

Why should they? A license only means they gave the state money. Trust me, it means nothing more.

Re: Why don't concrete contractors need to have a state license?

Have you checked with your local building dept. or Board of contractors to see if they need a state licence or just taking someone else's word for it?
I have to agree with your logic.
Just read the hundreds of post on this and any DIY web site about all the slabs failing, footings cracking or tipping, front porches sinking, Ect.
I see it almost everyday where the concrete guy is poring concrete decks even with the thresholds right up against vinyl or wood siding.
Yesterday I saw one where they pored a walkway and had the slope where it meets the threshold to the garage right under the threshold, against the vinyl siding and as if that was not bad enough it was at a angle running right toward the threshold.

Every state is different when it comes to licensing-----in Illinois, the only trades with licenses are plumbers and electricians---

I kind of chuckle when I see 'licensed' on a contractors truck---business license maybe--but a deceitful person in my eyes.

Always ask other contractors for your concrete needs--we know the good ones--
The ready mix plants will also know the top guys in your area.
