Steps for sidewalk repair?

I have a sidewalk section in need of repair and I'd like to do the job myself. I've watched a few Youtube videos (this one in particular) and wanted to confirm the steps.
  1. Remove bad section and dig roughly 6" trough as well as channels on sides.
  2. Frame sides with 2x4s.
  3. Tamp down 2-3 inches of gravel and wet with hose.
  4. Mix and pour concrete mix.
  5. Level off with bar.
  6. (Roughly 1 hour later depending on weather) Edge with concrete edger.
  7. Finish with float, sponge, and/or broom.
  8. (Next day) Remove 2x4 forms.
Did I miss or misinterpret something?

Also, is there any way to separate the sections without a heavy duty circular saw, perhaps a chisel? I don't have that piece of equipment.

Lastly, is there any need to apply a sealer after a few weeks?

Thanks!

Re: Steps for sidewalk repair?

If you use the edger right after screeding, (using the bar? to flatten), it will knock the lumps down and create some cream which does a better finish when the edging is done later for finishing.
The tool you are missing is called a divider. They are cheap to buy. Likely under ten dollars.

Broom first, then edge

Re: Steps for sidewalk repair?

you can get a diamond blade for circle saws that will cut 2 1/2-3" deep then finish w/sledge hammer,,, other'n that, the 'bar' is called a 'screed',,, rest it on the forms & saw back 'n' forth to level & bring up cream

1x4's are sufficient for forms,,, sealer's not necessary
