Can anyone recommend the best type of contractor to seal this up after it's removed? Should someone who specializes in masonry do it? Is a general contractor sufficient? It's been disconnected from system with installation of a new furnace. About to begin finishing our basement.Sealing block after chimney removal.-img_20180223_083005877_1519396912070.jpg

Re: Sealing block after chimney removal.

You wouldn't need anybody specialized, no big deal really.

I see now. It goes into it's own stack. You can close the inside a few different ways. One is install an access door & just leave it closed. If you want something more permanent, stack a few bricks with mortar between them & skim coat it with a mortar mix.
