Patch Hole in Concrete Wall

Hi all,

Continuing with small repairs in a basement for a family member. Stumbled upon this "wonderful" find.

When an addition to the house was made several years ago, a plumber had punched a hole through the wall in the basement (drywall, insulation, and straight through the concrete to dirt) in the basement. After asking around, it sounded like they chose not to run a pipe there, moving to a different location. He was supposed to fix it, but instead I found a pretty "grody" pillowcase shoved into the void. The hole is about 1.5ft in diameter.

Planning to somehow refill the hole with new cement, or cover it with cement board before repairing the drywall but I wanted to ask, any tips or suggestions for the repair? Is there a different material or method I should use? Very concerned about moisture here.

Hydraulic cement.
Should be available at your local supply outlet / lumber yard.
Short of cutting off a body part, the worst that can happen in woodworking is manufacturing really nice looking kindling. --- Quoted from lenaitch

Re: Patch Hole in Concrete Wall

1.5 foot diameter hole needs some concrete bricks and mortar to fill. That too big a hole for just hydraulic cement.

Re: Patch Hole in Concrete Wall

joe d's got the right idea,,, hydraulic's the wrong material - its expansive cement due to the alum silicate it contains therefore short-lived,,, yes, you could DO it w/hydraulic but rapid set's much better material for this use,,, mortar in some doobies & finish w/mortar over the top (face) of the patch,,, then mud & drywall patch
