Natural quartzite stacked stone on columns

So I have 2 wood 6x6 columns supporting some of the load on my front porch, they are about 8ft tall, would like to surround them with stacked stone. The base of the column is a 12x12X12 concrete stem/footing. I want to build out the 6x6 to the same size of the base. Any recommendations on this project. I figure I could build out the 6x6 with 2x wood and then wrap with that waterproof wire paper? Or cement board?

Re: Natural quartzite stacked stone on columns

It is done like that or bigger all the time, if you are doing the section under the deck the tricky part is water proofing the top below the deck keep the bottom 1" high or air to come and go but you can work in some bug screen too.

Our piers are usually just 8" rounds and the build outs are 16 to 18 inches square but there are no rules.
