Chimney or house bracket to mount weather station

good morning

i'm considering mounting my weather station anemometer to my chimney. Can anyone recommend a bracket for this purpose. The meter is fairly light and will be mounted on a 7 foot section of one inch pvc pipe so I don't want overkill something simple. I need some clearance for one or two courses of bricks which extend out a couple of inched near top of chimney.

I would also consider mounting on eve of gable end of house. Need to see how much i need to clear the eve. maybe 8 inches or so. suggestions for either or both would be appreciated.

thank you

Wouldn't put anything on 1" PVC. It photo degrades and gets to be super brittle.

Run a section of stainless or galvanized pipe and you can mount via masonry anchors into the mortar and some pipe clamps.

Agree with WoW on using metal. Consider a couple of stand-off brackets. As an added benefit they will give more clearance from the chimney and put the station more into the airstream.

I used an 8' metal closet rod painted white to get my weather station high enough. The mounting bracket that @lenaitch showed seem pretty good. Also, you can use a tripod that you would mount a TV antenna to. It goes over the ridge of your roof, tow legs on one side, one on the other and the mast in the center. They run about $30 US on Amazon.

I used the stand off brackets, from Amazon and a piece of chain link (fence) top rail.

Lenaitch, can I screw these into the brick? Or do i screw it into the mortar? and how do you do this? masonry bit to tap hole?
thanks

Also is there a lightning risk using a metal pole for mounting?

Mortar. Easier to fix.

Do you have a hammer drill?

A 4' pole is not going to make your house any more likely to attract lightening.

You may want to consider a chimney mount for an antenna that can be bought at any number of places... Lowes, Home Depot, et al... Google it.... Most of them don't require you to drill into the chimney, just use a SS strap to girdle the chimney.

Agree with mortar vs. brick. If you do drill, use Tapcon screws - they have an more aggressive thread. I've never felt the need to use a hammer drill on mortar. You can buy Tapcon with a proper sized masonry bit.

BTW... I'd use ABS rather than PVC since it will last a long time exposed on the roof. I'll outlast both of us. The house I had in Socal had ABS stubs on the roof for 36 years and AFAIK they're still sticking up there.

Just google TV antenna gear.

Being a long time ham radio operator, I've used this type before... works great with no drilling required.

Re: Chimney or house bracket to mount weather station

Thank you Everyone

Decided to go with a 10 foot metal pole (will most likely extend 6 or 7 feet above chimney) and standoff brackets with straps. I will post photos once the job is done. Saturday I hope. Missed a big blow this weekend.

Thanks again

Maybe hang it atop the flag pole.
There's long ones and short ones.
