Best practices for pavers over concrete patio.

I want to resurface my concrete patio with concrete pavers. I'm looking for some information on best practices. There seems to be a variety of advice about it, but it's sometimes contradictory.

the concrete is pretty thick, say 6", I am in NY so freeze thaw is perhaps an issue, and the current surface is in mediocre condition.

Should I install directly on top of concrete or use a layer of paver base and or sand?

Should I cement the perimeter or not?

Should I use landscape fabric under it? ( not worried about weeds, currently here are no weeds in any cracks ) but maybe to prevent sand from going anywhere?

Do I need drainage? should I worry about draining? currently it's not really pitched in enough for it to drain properly, should I try and correct this with the paver base?

Should I get thin pavers? I've looked for these but can't seem to find them, don't know if this is preferred for this type of installation, or if they are more likely to crack.

What brand of pavers? are the big box ones ok quality, or should I spring for something better.... interlocking ? Hex? anyone have any thoughts or preferences ?

Re: Best practices for pavers over concrete patio.

1st, where in ny ? metro, mid-hudson, capital, so tier - where ? if conc's in good shape, don't worry about temp causing breaks/crks,,, no sand bed, no fabric - p/l adhesive under perimeter pieces, & fill in,,, you MAY use fabric & sand but not nec

ALWAYS drainage is a concern - 1/4" : 10' is sufficient,,, apron/vest stores sell mtls suitable for correcting slope - cement section - polymer-modified overlay mtl

thin pavers break much more easily,,, all brands seems good,,, we like i-lock better but our customers seem to be all over the place,,, its the bride's decision,,, don't forget locking sand
