Looking to replace my very old single pane sliding glass doors. Having a dilemma on which type of door would work best as the siding trim has been wrapped onto the siding frame on the exterior.
I guess my question is would I better off to remove that siding trim entirely using a door frame with a nail fin/flange or could I get away with keeping some of the trim in tact and opt for a typical box frame? I have no problem removing the trim, replacing with Aztec/PVC just don't wanna kick myself if I was able to slide the new frame and keep some existing trim.
I attached a few pic's of my setup. Thanks in advance for your time and help!
I had a similar situation on my own house when I replaced my old slider with a new Andersen unit. I took off the vinyl siding around the door area to expose everything. Installed the new door which had a nailing flange. After sealing with protector wrap, drip cap, etc., I used 1 x 4 pvc trim to trim out the door. Installed some new J-channel around the pvc and reinstalled the siding. Makes for a nice job and in my opinion, easier when it's all said and done.
