Best sliding glass doors

Obviously "best" has factors. Anyone rate a particular brand (Anderson, AC, Millgard, Marvin, etc) better or worse. Stay away from whom?

Looking to replace a 3 panel sliding glass door with minimal styles to maximize view. Have anderson (27 years old) and was considering just replacing with an exact match. Figured I'd ask for opinions.

thanks,

g

Re: Best sliding glass doors

I have a client who is replacing a large slider with an Andersen. We're waiting on it to come in, since it was special order. They aren't cheap ($2100) but seem to be good doors. It is a 400 series with painted metal on outside and wood inside.

I have seen problems with vinyl or aluminum clad wood windows and doors. The seal leaks, water gets behind the cladding and never dries out. Wood then rots

I would go with either wood or solid vinyl. In either case go with composite jambs.

What material do you want? There are good doors in all of the variants.

Vinyl covered wood likely. Will liekly be a narrowline 200 or e series if andersen due to the think styles. Going in a beach commuity so the aluminum is out. Not dealing with wood maintenance.

Thanks everyone BTW.

Andersen can do triple pane, Marvin can do double pane in a standard door.

Re: Best sliding glass doors

I'm currently replacing two Anderson 6' units that have been nothing but trouble.

The vinyl has pulled away in spots, and water has got to the wood. Screen never really worked worth a .....

Going budget this time with the Reliabilt (Jeld-Wen) 300 series doors, and so far, I'm happy with the one I've installed..

Re: Best sliding glass doors

The Andersen doors are usually pretty darn good and if we were doing a comparison on the averages...much better than anything from Reliabilt or Jeld-Wen. Not trying to be argumentative here, but perhaps you got a lemon from andersen before, but they are overwhelmingly more proven than what you replaced them with.
