Wood front door cold...

I have a very nice wooden front door with 4 small glass panels. Around the perimeter of the door is all sealed up but it's very cold by the door which I'm sure is effecting my house. I don't use that door during the winter. So I am seeking away to improve the conditions. Blanket hanging on the inside...? I just know and that is why I ask here. There is a storm door. Thanks

Re: Wood front door cold...

The door probably isn't insulated and panelled? Panels are also thin in places. There isn't anything you can do and some places, such as windows, will be colder. This is the price paid for having doors and windows but a house will not make sense without them. You just have to think of them as necessary energy cost. You can replace them with better insulation and such and maybe remove the trims and see if the framing gaps are allowing air to travel, but depends on if the trims are very nice or average. Very nice trims can easily become damaged in the process.

So hanging a insulated blanket or putting something like that between the storm door and the wooden door would not help? Remember, this door does not need to be used in the winter.

Re: Wood front door cold...

I'd consider fitting and sealing an insulating foam board in the exterior outside frame opening. Something in the R value of 7.0-8.0 .
