What is belly board?

Below is the note from the inspector:

Make sure underside of double wide home is properly insulated and sealed with belly board.

What materials can use from Lowes to do this?

Any sheet goods. I.E. plywood, particle board, O S B, etc.

Mobile home makers use the cheapest thing possible, and it often falls out.

Re: What is belly board?

I would ask the inspector to clarify, because I don't like doing things twice.

Re: What is belly board?

I don't know that I've ever seen any type of board being used by the manufacture under a mobile home. Most use a 'plastic' referred to as belly wrap. When I've had to repair the insulation under a MH I've used tar paper, foam board or whatever I thought would work best. The main thing is to keep the insulation in place as it insulates the pipes and duct work along with the floor.

They use fabric so it can breath.

Re: What is belly board?

These must be newer MH, all the ones that I am familiar with, from the 60s-80s, had a fiber board sheet, then a plastic like the old visqueen, then the insulation ( fiberglass), all below the plumbing, then the particle board floor, with a rolled linoleum flooring.

It was easy for feral cats to rip into the bottom sheet of fiber board, and nest in there, if the owner did not skirt them properly.

Also if no skirting, they often froze up and burst Copper plumbing.

Re: What is belly board?

Mobile homes are built for the region they are sold in; near the ocean they are built to withstand more wind and I assume those for up north are built different to withstand the cold. The MHs here in the southeast always made me wonder how anyone could live in one in the far north. If I remember correctly on the fuse/breaker box there is a sticker stating what region that particular MH was built for.
