No insulation

Hello...

I have an older lake house with no insulation inside the walls. I have had several spots open doing electrical. All I have seen is a very thin black paper on the outside behind the wood exterior.

The inside is finished with three quarter inch solid wood paneling. Picture.

The outside is cedar boards laid on top of studs with an additional cedar board in the middle to hide the gap.

I could remove every outer cedar board put in fiberglass then put every board back in place, but that would be a lot of work. They are nailed, and I have had a few boards off, but most I removed did crack or split when removing.

I did see something on tv where they drilled a hole outside and filled it with blown in insulation, but not sure about it so I ask.

Re: No insulation

I would look close at doing it from the out side.

If you can see the nails you could use a cats claw and then turn the board painted side in. That would be a lot of work but you would get a much better insulation job.

Re: No insulation

If there is a deep enough cavity between inside and outside the blown-in insulation is a frequent solution. I would prefer cellulose as it can be installed to a denser level, more air tight.

Get some estimates from local insulation companies and take notes. in some cases they can install it clost to the same price you would buy just the insulation. Then they do the drilling and plugging.
