Insulating Floor of attached side porch for new bathroom

I am planning a new bathroom install on my attached side porch (Brick foundation) Underneath is only partially back-filled with dirt. The porch sits outside my kitchen wall. My basement sits below my kitchen and next to but not directly under the side porch.

The area has no heating or electricity currently.

I plan on installing the electrical circuits myself but in doing so wanted to use heating mats for radiant heat. I was told this will work fine but may be an issue with no insulation under the floor. What kind of insulation could I fill this with to fix this issue?

Thanks

So it will be exposed to the moisture from the dirt? Is there a way to encapsulate the joists with a rigid foam board?

The plan is to rip up the current subfloor and redo with 3/4" plywood so we would have access to the joists when doing that.

Also, the porch is enclosed by brick on 3 of 4 side, There is a small wall/crawl space where we could get in under the porch but we would need to remove a good part of the backfilled dirt before doing so.

Thanks

Hi DeeEye, no skin off of my knuckles but it doesn't sound like a permitted project. Very common for home buyers now and certainly in the future to check to be sure all work was permitted and inspected. It can be an expensive surprise down the road or even sooner if someone reports work being done and no permit displayed.

Like I said, not my problem.

Good luck
Bud

I would consider holding up the porch and covert it to a slab floor.

Treat it like a crawl space if you don't convert it to a slab.

Concrete slab?

The porch itself is about 6 ft off the ground. That.s a lot of concrete.

No, you back fill it compact it, do your plumbing and some prep work with foam and poly and pour a 3 1/2" slab. Electric heat under tile.

It is easy to say when I know nothing about the structure so.:biggrin2:
