Do you have to top up cellulose?

A contractor messed up left a section of my roof open and water got into my attic. We are bith going to go investigate in my attic to see if anything is wet or if the insulation is compressed. Let's say everything looks good, should I be asking him to pay to get my insulation topped up afterwards? I've been told in the past that any time you walk in the attic with blown in cellulose, it's impossible not to compact it.

Any advice is appreciated.

Ask for anything you can think of - it creates negotiating room.

A lot depends on how much water and how messed up. Definitely needs to be dry and you need to check all the way to the bottom. A sprinkle probably not a problem. But if water soaked through that wet insulation may need to come out and replaced.

As for "topping off" neatness counts with r-value.
