Chimney balloon

Had an insulation guy out and he quoted $400 to measure, obtain and install a chimney balloon. I see that I can purchase a balloon on line for about $60. Is $340 for measuring and installation reasonable? I measured myself, but I'm worried that this is more of an art than a science, because if the ballon does not fit snuggly, seems like it would be almost worthless.

Easier to just construct a Plywood Panel that fits into the opening, and uses wood blocks to secure it in place, by using bolts that use embedded nuts in the wood. Balloons are okay, but do not really keep the noise out.

You could of course just have the Spark cap changed out to one that you pull closed with a chain, that secures inside where the draft door is.

I think you are fine to install one of these yourself.

Sounds like you have done all the heavy lifting.
