Cellar ceiling insulation

Hi all

I am looking to insulate the cellar ceiling to make the room above warmer. I have decided to use Celotex.

Following a lot of googling opinion seems to be split as to whether the insulation should be touching the floor boards above, or whether there should be an air gap to allow circulation. Celotex, in their manual, seem to suggest that it should be touching. I am worried though that the floor boards will rot.

I am just wondering what others think? Maybe it doesn't matter?!

Thanks

Re: Cellar ceiling insulation

Is the cellar conditioned?

If so, the insulation improvements should be at the wall and not on the ceiling.

Re: Cellar ceiling insulation

Is there mechanical or plumbing in that area? Where is the home again?

Re: Cellar ceiling insulation

I would caution against additional insulation them.

The concern here, if your area gets cold and below freezing, would be that by further insulating the ceiling, you will lessen the amount of energy transfer between the spaces and the cellar could get that much colder and possibly below freezing.

That can present an entirely new set of problems with plumbing down there.

------------------------Welcome to the forums!---------------------------------

A picture would help... Celotex has many different boards with different perm ratings, which board where you looking at? Describe the floor make-up.

Leave a gap for warm toes; https://buildingscience.com/document...al-performance

17,000 dryer fires a year, when did you last clean the inside of the dryer near motor or the exhaust ducting?
