can you help strategize how to insulate this area?

i opened by basement hatch door and saw this https://imgur.com/gallery/GHZ00n2 it's wide open to elements coming from the gaps from the door that i have sealed using spray foam. You can see the dry wall on the corner. How should i insulate this. should buy the foam board, cut in peices and line up in the conrner and use spray foam just you would to insulate rim joists?

Cut and cobble the larger spaces, spray foam the smaller ones. Use window and door foam and don't try to fill on one pass. Multiple smaller passes.

Cobble refers to piecing in smaller pieces as needed to fit where needed.

I couldn't figure out your pictures when you first posted so did not comment. Still not obvious to this old timer. Is this access from outside or inside?

https://imgur.com/gallery/GHZ00n2 The whole thing is looking through my basement door from inside of the basement. if you look at the third pic from the top you can see the basement door leading up to the bulk head door. All other pics are directly above the basement door, essentially rim joists, and on the side, studs and dry wall. You can see, on the side, vapour retardant or barrier and dry wall. on top you can see rim joist and some fiberglass, to insulate. i am trying to figure out how i should insulate this open sspace? i was thinking of just cutting XPS foam board against it and sealing with can spray foam. the air from the bulk head door is going up on that open space. Directly above it is my deck and door to the deck and registers. In winter, the floor gets very cold.

The exterior door has been installed in the interior wall so that area gets no benefit from heat in the basement. I would just fill it with what ever insulation and cover it with drywall or plywood.

Same link as in post #1 so no improvement for me. Your description may mean a lot to you but a challenge to me. I'll let others deal with this thread.

Bud

PS it isn't you, it is me, just thick and a pictures guy.
