basement insulation

My basement has 2x4 stud walls along the exterior block walls. The 2x4 wall is set off the block by about a 3/8 inch. I dont think there has ever been an issue with water or moisture.(just recently moved in) Would it be safe to use fiberglass insulation before drywallig? Or do I have to go with rigid? Thanks

Re: basement insulation

I'm not qualified to answer the question about whether it's safe to use fiberglass. But in my last 2 homes I used rigid against the concrete followed by fiberglass between the studs. That's more expensive but both basements were dry, warm and didnt have that musty smell. On this house I bought used/scrap rigid from a guy on craigs list who salvages it from demolitions.

Re: basement insulation

Here the FG would meet code and it what I would use. I don't know where you are or what your local code might be.

I'd suggest Roxul.

The concern is having a vapor barrier in there too.
Even if you don't need the extra R's the XPS does the vapor.

Re: basement insulation

That is like the wall we build and they use either FG or safe n sound and a 6 mill vapour barrier and then drywall , the barrier is to keep moist house air from condensing on the cool fountain.
