is this a bad idea ?

i am just wondering about this, as idk if i will ever do the basement.

block foundation 1/2 below grade. then 1" xps, then, turn the 2x4's sideways and install, then idk what insulation in the 1 1/2" space . than drywall.

i would be concerned with taking up to much space.

You trying to preserve wall space? Not sure that the 2" less on the 4 sides will amount to that much. Easier to run wires and mechanicals in a full stud wall.

i wouldn't want to make the room much smaller. so yeah, in some places 2" would be a lot. perhaps i will mock something up and see how it is. mechanicals = not any. wires, a few outlets, and i think i can run emt inside xps ?

1"XPS is a bad idea, unless you want condensation there, MINIMUM code in your location is R-10, not counting exposing (for wire runs) the concrete to room air for problems; http://energycode.pnl.gov/EnergyCode...state=Illinois

17,000 dryer fires a year, when did you last clean the inside of the dryer near motor or the exhaust ducting?
