Will rock salt prevent unwanted growth

I have a cracked up concrete backyard that I won’t be able to fix until summer 2020.

Can I throw some rock salt on the exposed areas to prevent growth?

It was a jungle back there last summer. Trying to avoid that this year.

Thx

Re: Will rock salt prevent unwanted growth

Seems to do a good enough job of keeping stuff from growing when it hits my yard!!!

Got a picture of what your dealing with?
A mixture of table salt and white vinegar will work for a while, but total vegetation killer with 43% Glyphosate will keep it coming back for up to a year.

Re: Will rock salt prevent unwanted growth

I have used the salt and vinegar for weeds around my fence and it is short lived. I used it because the dogs like to eat grass so needed something safe for them.

Note, if you plan on installing concrete the salt might be a problem, not my specialty.

It might help with the continued destruction of the concrete, but I am not sure about as weed killer. Round is my friend here.

@jaketrades , try the salt.

Some plants will take salt much better than you think, especially in a sea-side place like NYC.

It won't cost much, and if doesn't work totally, it might inhibit things a bit.

And if it doesn't, you can always thrash.

Let us know how it goes.

A bleach solution in a garden sprayer works well enough for most weeds. Scalping them by cutting them flush to the ground will also cut their growth rate dramatically. So will one of the propane fueled weed torches.

I used weed killer on poison oak on my property as I have become highly allergic to it after many years of exposure but I would not use it recklessly on anything green growing where I don't want it.

Make like the Chinese do, and eat 'em! Though you have to do it in season, and if there's a big clump, you might get tired of it before they're out.

Bamboo can be tough to remove, oh yeah. Still get nightmares about the Zombie Giant Timber Bamboo.

Ayuh,..... My french grandmother would spend hours cuttin' dandelion greens in the spring, before they went to flower,.....
They get bitter later,.....
Kinda tough to do when they're pokin' through 3" of fresh blacktop,.....

As for in the lawn, 'round here if I can just mow 'em, who cares, they're still green,.....
